Macromedia develops a number of software products that can be used to create rich media advertisements for the Web or to add some spice to a Web site.

Macromedia's Shockwave Director is the tool used to create Shockwave content, the Internet's high-speed, low-bandwith engine for multimedia. Director's authoring environment is Internet-optimized with support for Internet standards like Java, HTTPS, XML, and more.

Director ships with sound editors; a multiuser server; behavior libraries; and Fireworks, a complete set of tools for bitmap and vector graphics.

Macromedia's Flash is used by Web developers to create beautiful, resizable, and extremely small and compact navigation interfaces, technical illustrations, long-form animations, and other dazzling effects for Web sites and other Web-enabled devices (such as WebTV).

Other Macromedia products include Generator, a tool and server solution for automating and personalizing Web site graphics, ad banners, maps, calendars, charts, and other live or frequently updated data.
