Internet Job Searches Broaden
The data shows writers, teachers, and secretaries are increasingly turning to the Internet to find employment. Job seekers on the Internet are searching for a broader range of interests and job titles, such as writer, teacher, and executive.
The most popular search done on CareerMosaic during the first six months of 1999 was "manager/management," with 1,763,471 searches. The second most frequent was "sales" totaling 827,685, followed by "engineer" with 642,723, "accounting" with 468,739, and "marketing" with 430,465.
The widening use of the Internet is also shown in the number of searches for "legal/law" (No. 15), "teachers" (No. 16), "customer service representatives" (No. 17), "medical" (No. 20), "writers" (No. 23), "executives" (No. 24), and "entry level" positions (No. 25).
"The pool of job seekers using the Internet to find employment continues to expand in all professional areas, including customer service, secretarial, and, not surprisingly, entry level positions," said Bernard Hodes, president of CareerMosaic. "While computer and engineering jobs are still widely sought, this survey shows that the Web is increasingly becoming mainstream."
