Google Takes Nearly Half of Search Shares for October
Internet users conducted over 3 billion searches on Google in October, accounting for 23 percent year-over-year growth for the search provider. That's according to the "October U.S. Search Share Rankings" data released by Nielsen//NetRatings.
Google's share of searches reached 49.6 percent, a 23 percent year-over-year growth from last October. Yahoo supported 1.5 billion searches; a 30 percent growth over last year and a 23.9 percent share of searches. MSN, which includes Windows Live Search, had 538.6 million searches conducted on its sites. MSN and Windows Live Search account for 8.8 percent of all search queries, an 8 percent drop over the same period last year.

Also ranking in search shares is AOL (6.2 percent share of searches); Ask.com (2.8 percent); My Way (2.2 percent); EarthLink Search and Comcast Search (1 percent each); and BellSouth Search and iWon (0.5 percent each). Of those search providers, Ask.com gained the most with 25 percent year-over-year growth. Comcast and BellSouth were not previously ranked.
