Despite a downturn in the housing market, real estate sites continue to attract more traffic.
The Move Network, which operates Realtor.com for the National Association of Realtors, was the top ranked real estate Web site in December. It had 6.8 million unique visitors, according to comScore Media Metrix.
Of the top ranked sites, Trulia, a real estate search engine, saw the biggest increase, jumping from 579,000 unique visitors in December 2006 to 1.6 million last month. As visitors to real estate sites increase, advertising is slowly following.
Realtor.com is also ranked No. 1 in December by Hitwise, another online measurement firm. Move.com, which calls itself a real estate search engine with access to Realtor.com’s listings, followed.
While comScore shows Realtor.com’s traffic growing, Hitwise shows the site’s market share of visits declining.
ComScore data are based on an opt-in global panel of over two million consumers. The panel is observed for browsing and transactional behavior and participates in survey research to capture attitudes.
Hitwise, a subsidiary of Experian, monitors how more than 25 million Internet users, including 10 million in the United States, interact with over one million Web sites across more than 160 industry categories. It collects Internet usage information through a combination of ISP data partnerships and opt-in panels. Data are collected in accordance with local and international privacy legislation and are audited by PricewaterhouseCoopers.
