Over 75,000 new Weblogs are created every day, over half continue to be updated at least weekly after three months.

At the pace in which new blogs are created, the blogosphere doubles in size every six months according to Technorati Technorati founder and CEO David Sifry in part one of his "State of the Blogosphere, April 2006.

The company estimates over 75,000 new Weblogs are created each day. Blog creation is one part of the equation, continued posting is another. About 19.4 million bloggers (55 percent) still maintain their blogs with new posts after three months of blogging. Sifry estimates that three months prior to pulling the data, the rate of bloggers who continue to maintain their blog after three months was about 50.5 percent or 13.7 million bloggers. While not all bloggers write regularly, about 3.9 million update their blogs at least weekly.

Just as email is overcome by spam, the blogosphere is sullied by splogs (define) and spings (spings). The influx of spam-related blogs accounts for nine percent of new blogs.

Daily, the blogosphere averages 1.2 million legitimate posts per day, or about 50,000 postings per hour. Noticeable spikes in the past quarter were seen for scheduled events and product announcements. The most measurable spike occurred when Apple announced the Intel Mac. That product announcement exceeded spikes seen during the Super Bowl and the 2006 State of the Union address.

Technorati currently tracks 35.5 million sites and 2.3 billion links through its real-time search engine.
