Apple and Google Continue Smartphone Growth in Europe

  |  September 14, 2010   |  Comments

Despite the fact Nokia's Symbian platform remains the dominant smartphone platform across Europe, the number of devices running Apple's iOS and Google's Android operating systems continues to grow.

Symbian was installed on almost 69 percent of new smartphones in July 2009, but that figure fell significantly to 54.4 percent in July 2010. Meanwhile both Apple and Google enjoyed gains, growing their overall market share by 9 percentage points and 5.6 percentage points, respectively, over the same period.

BlackBerry manufacturer RIM also saw its share of subscibers grow, reaching an 8 percent share of handsets in July 2010, while Microsoft's Windows Mobile platform lost ground, falling by 2.3 percentage points and 11.6 percent share.
