Next to text-based search ads, display is the most common form of online advertising used by political campaigns and issue advocacy groups.
Although the majority of political online ads are aimed at drumming up donations, some of the display ads spotted around the web this year by ClickZ featured persuasion messaging. Most campaigns still measure display ad success by the number of signups or the amount of fundraising dollars they generate; however, the increase in persuasion messages in these ads signals the gradual sophistication of online political display.
