Citysearch is launching a location-based deals app on Tuesday that incorporates offers from its platform along with those running on Groupon. If a user opts into letting the app automatically identify location, an airline traveler could theoretically take advantage of a local deal in New York City during the morning and then a different offer in Los Angeles later that day.
"If you prefer to control your location manually, you can simply go into the location tab and choose a location yourself," J.P. Bedoya, senior director at the West Hollywood, CA-based company, told ClickZ. Bedoya said the "Deals by Citysearch" app is available for iPhone 3.1 and Android 1.6 users and those with newer versions of the smartphones.
"We are based on a deals platform, not a group-buying platform," he explained. "[It] is an app and web experience that provides users with the best curated deals based on their location and needs."
While Bedoya said the app will aggregate deals from Groupon and existing Citysearch/CityGrid merchant relationships, he said his firm would "continue to add new partners, so users can expect more daily deals and ongoing offers in the future."
