Blacks and Hispanics More Likely to Use Twitter Than Whites

  |  June 3, 2011

Thirteen percent of online adults in the U.S. now make use of Twitter, according to a survey report issued by the Pew Research Center's Internet & American Life Project, up from the 8 percent of users that reported doing so in November 2010.

The survey, which polled a total of 2,277 representative respondents, also found that African Americans and Hispanics are far more likely to use the service than white users, relatively speaking. A full 25 percent of Black, non-Hispanic Internet users reported using the service, compared to 19 percent of Hispanic users and 9 percent of white, non-Hispanic users.

The research also highlighted the number of users accessing the social network through mobile phones. Fifty-four percent of Twitter users reported doing so.
