Google's Android operating system continues to dominate the U.S. smartphone market, according to research by The Nielsen Company. Meanwhile Apple tops the market in terms of hardware share, thanks to the popularity of its iPhone devices.
A survey of over 20,000 mobile subscribers conducted between April and June this year revealed that 39 percent of respondents currently use the Android operating system, installed on devices manufactured by companies including HTC, Motorola and Samsung.
In terms of hardware, however, Apple dominates the market, its iPhone handsets representing 28 percent of all U.S. smartphones followed by HTC devices and RIM's Blackberry line, which account for a 20 percent share of the market each.
