Groupon will offer $1 lunches tomorrow in 25 markets via its GrouponNow app. While the move is clearly designed to get more consumers using the deals service on their smart phones, there's also holidays goodwill marketing in play.
"In partnership with [hunger relief nonprofit] Feeding America," a Groupon spokesperson said via an email, "a portion of the proceeds from $1 Lunch Day will help provide half-a-million meals to families in need this holiday season."
In May, Groupon tested the same offer in its hometown of Chicago. But competitor LivingSocial apparently thought of the idea first, running $1 lunch deals in Washington, DC during April.
