Post-apocalyptic "Electric City" is Yahoo's first attempt at a scripted series.
Tom Hanks is coming to Yahoo with a new animated miniseries called "Electric City." The post-apocalyptic adventure story represents Yahoo's first attempt at a scripted series, and its latest stab at featuring more premium video content.
Hanks created and stars in "Electric City," which all together runs 90 minutes. The series was produced by Yahoo in partnership with Reliance Entertainment.
The series will not exist strictly on video, however. Interactive features and "community interaction" will accompany each episode, as will special events and online games. Yahoo says the series will be available across mobile devices, tablets and connected TVs, though it didn't say which ones. The announcement was made at the Consumer Electronics Show today in Las Vegas.
Last week, Yahoo announced a deal with the Sundance Film Festival to present movies and live reports from the festival online this year, after reaching more than 1 million viewers with a live stream from the premiere of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 in November.
