One in Two U.S. Households Own an Apple Product

More than 55 million homes have a Mac, iPhone, iPad, or iPod.

More than 55 million homes in the U.S. house at least one iPhone, iPad, iPod or Mac computer, according to CNBC's All-America Economic survey.

Using data accrued polling 836 Americans between March 19 and 22, the research indicates that while Apple's market is growing, the figure is mainly due to customer loyalty.

The research indicates the figure is inflated by Apple loyalists, with homes often owning either more than one Apple device or none at all. Specifically, the data shows pro-Apple households usually contain three Apple devices under their roof.

This compares to its new buyer growth rate, with only one in 10 of the poll's respondents indicating plans to buy an Apple device in the near future.

However, the statistical validity of translating results from just 836 respondents to represent the entire population of the USA must be called into question.

But taken on its merits, the survey also indicates that the majority of Apple products are owned by wealthy, university educated, young and middle aged men.

The data shows that 28 percent of U.S. residents on $30,000 per year or below own an Apple device, compared to the 77 percent ownership rate recorded on consumers with an income of $75,000 or above.

CNBC's research shows that Americans in the 35 to 49 age bracket are just as likely to purchase an Apple device as those in the 18 and 34, with 63 per cent of both groups defining themselves as "Apple users".

Homes with children were also highlighted as being more likely to own an Apple product, with 61 per cent of homes with children owning an Apple device, compared to the 48 percent in childless households.
