New York Yankee fans: check your email this afternoon. Fans with a chunk of cash lying around who want to chat with Derek Jeter about clutch hits or Mariano Rivera about his signature cut fastball may be interested in a LivingSocial offer. The daily deals company is pitching 30-minute meet-and-greets with the Yankee legends for $2,500 (Jeter) and $2,000 (Rivera).
"Just like small businesses are using [LivingSocial] to help with marketing, sports franchises are also using [LivingSocial] to help their marketing efforts," LivingSocial rep Maire Griffin told ClickZ.
Each offer entails a 100-level seat game ticket. There are 10 spots available for the Jeter portion of the campaign, and 20 slots for Rivera.
In an email that LivingSocial says will go out to New York City subscribers at 2 p.m. ET, other offers will include signed 8X10 photos from the two ballplayers. Once again, Jeter's item ($290) comes in a little pricier than Rivera's ($265). The offers are already available at LivingSocial.com.
In the unusual effort, the Yankees/Steiner Sports is the marketing client, while LivingSocial plays its normal role of platform. There's no charitable aspect to the campaign, the Washington, DC-based daily deals player said.
