Online Europeans in some countries love their sports almost as much as Americans do, according to comScore data for February 2012. For instance, Turkey (70.7 percent) barely trails the U.S. (70.9 percent) in terms of the reach of sports sites among Internet users in the respective countries.
Sports sites in soccer-crazed nations like Ireland (69.8 percent), Spain (65.9 percent), and the U.K. (64.3 percent) garner similar attention, comScore says. Conversely, the Italians (44.3 percent), Finns (45 percent), French (45.5 percent), and Portuguese (46.1 percent) represent the lowest numbers for European populations and sports sites.
And at the same time, the Reston, VA-based research firm finds that the continent collectively pales in comparison to the U.S., with 45.8 percent of Europeans visiting sports sites in February.
