Is your kid too old to be living at home? Well KFC and Comedy Central could help finally kick out that slacker once and for all. With the new web series “Growing Up and Getting Out” comes a chance to win free rent and bucket loads of chicken. The five episode web series is focused around a broke college student forced to return home after school. KFC is using the web series as a way to promote its new product, KFC Bites.
KFC approached Comedy Central with the idea of a web series targeting a young 18-24 year old audience. Comedy Central responded with the creation of the web series starring Dave Koechner from “Anchorman” as the father and Mad TV’s Mo Collins as the mother.
The Growing Up and Getting Out contest has generated plenty of interest from viewers. Prior to each episode, a commercial that embodies the dream of a young man’s life is aired. He’s sitting in the basement with fast food and a video game controller in each hand. He is having the time of his life until suddenly, he is approached by his parents. He’s able to fend off his parents by giving up one of his prized KFC bites.
At the end of each episode is a reminder for viewers to participate in the Growing Up and Getting Out contest. Participants are asked to share funny stories, photos, and experiences of living at home in order to have a chance to win.
After the final episode is released, all of the shared experiences will be judged and then one winner will be named. The best post will receive $12,500 in cash and $600 in KFC Gift Checks. Finally the opportunity of a lifetime will be answered for one lucky winner.
KFC and Comedy Central are using multiple social media platforms to push the web series. A link to the videos can be found on the KFC and Comedy Central Facebook and Twitter pages. On Twitter, KFC has several tweets linking to the video and swaying followers to grab some KFC Bites and enjoy the show.

KFC and Comedy Central have also linked the contest and video to their website homepages and YouTube accounts.
As of July 26, the first episode of the series had over 6,100 views and 132 Facebook likes on the Comedy Central page alone since being posted on July 16. The second episode had just over 4,800 video views and 73 likes since July 23. With only two of the five episodes having aired so far, Comedy Central would not provide the number of contest entries.
The final three episodes are set to air on July 30, August 6, and August 13. With the series starting to gain more attention and more college students getting scared away by their parents, look for Comedy Central and KFC to continue pushing the contest through their social media and online pages.
