Google has made a deal that will see the company expand its reach in the publishing and travel spaces.
The company on Monday announced an agreement with publisher John Wiley & Sons that will give Google control over the Frommer’s brand of travel publications. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Wiley said that the agreement itself was finalized on August 10.
The deal will add to a Google publishing group that already includes the Zagat travel and restaurant reviews and publications operation.
“The Frommer’s team and the quality and scope of their content will be a great addition to the Zagat team,” the company said in a statement provided to V3.
“We can’t wait to start working with them on our goal to provide a review for every relevant place in the world.”
The Frommer’s content will likely be rolled into Google’s mapping and local search platforms, much like the Zagat content has been thus far.
Since acquiring Zagat in September of last year, the company has made the review and guide platform a source of content for its Local platform. Zagat content has been integrated with services including Google+ and Google Maps platforms.
The Frommer’s deal marks the latest in a string of acquisitions Google has made in recent months. Though the massive deal for Motorola Mobility has had the highest profile, the company has agreed to smaller strategic acquisitions as well, such as the purchase of email software developer Sparrow.
