National Park Foundation Seeks to Inspire Visitors With Summer Scrapbook

The initiative asks consumers to submit photos, videos, and tips.

The National Park Foundation, the official charity of America’s national parks, has launched a summer-long promotion, Summer Scrapbook, in which it is asking consumers to share their favorite park moments, memories, and advice in an online community.

According to the foundation, the goal of the campaign is to inspire Americans to visit their 401 national parks. Since it launched June 20, the promotion has received more than 1,000 submissions.

The National Park Foundation is asking park visitors to post photos, videos, and travel tips. Site visitors will find 10 categories – that includes eight photo options, as well as one each for videos and park tips. Visitors post their content to the appropriate category. Each person can submit up to 10 items. When sharing content, users are asked to select the associated park.

“A lot of people come to the National Park Foundation site looking for national park travel information and ideas,” says Angela Hearn, director of marketing at the National Park Foundation. “While the National Park Service website is the online destination for the history and facts on the national parks, the National Park Foundation website complements their information with personal stories and experiences from park visitors and enthusiasts.”

All entries must be posted by September 8. On September 10, the National Park Foundation will announce finalists in each category. The public will be invited to vote through September 30.

Anyone who submits content is automatically entered for a chance to win a summer or winter trip to Yosemite National Park. In addition, voters are entered for a chance to win a railway journey to Grand Canyon National Park.

All category winners will receive a National Park Explorer Pack. Prize packs include hiking and camping equipment, as well as National Park Foundation gear and a national parks pass.

There will be two grand prize winners and 10 category winners. Winners will be announced in September and early October.

“We want to inspire the American people to visit their 401 national parks and give them a place online to share and exchange their favorite national park moments, memories, and advice with other national park visitors and enthusiasts,” Hearn says.

The National Park Foundation is the official charity of America’s national parks. It raises private funds that “aid, support and enrich” America’s more than 400 national parks and their programs.

The National Park Foundation has 209,000 likes on Facebook. @GoParks has 39,000 followers.
