Quick service chain Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen has declared September “Love That Chicken Month” and is asking fans to join spokeswoman Annie in literally singing the brand’s praises.
Throughout the month, which Popeyes says is also National Fried Chicken Month, the brand is soliciting entries for a virtual choir on its website.
To participate, fans simply shoot a short video of themselves singing the Popeyes jingle, “Love that chicken from Popeyes,” on YouTube, Instagram, or Vine, tag it with #LovethatChicken, and upload the URL on the Love That Chicken page.
As guests add their voices, Popeyes says it will create “the world’s largest virtual chorus ever assembled.”
A promotional video on YouTube has about 600 views as of August 30:
Each week, Popeyes says it will highlight 12 video entries in the “Spicy Dozen” to showcase what it calls “the creativity and innovation of sweepstakes participants.”
The videos will then be judged on creativity and adherence to theme. Prizes will be awarded for each of the social platforms, including: $1,000, a wireless Bluetooth speaker, or a Popeyes t-shirt, karabiner, and $25 Popeyes gift check.
The site is also searchable by participant.
“Our delicious food always gives our guests something to sing about, and now they will be able to literally join the chorus,” said Hector Munoz, vice president of marketing, in a prepared statement. “‘Love that Chicken’ has been an anthem of Popeyes guests for more than 35 years and now we’re providing an offer that will inspire another 35 years of continued loyalty.”
A Popeyes rep was not available for comment by deadline.
Throughout the month, guests who upsize their combo beverage will also receive a Sprite promotional cup. By texting the 12-digit code found on the cup they will be entered to win a trip to a concert in New Orleans in February. Each code will also provide an opportunity for guests to download a free song or the Love That Chicken from Popeyes ringtone.
The brand has 369,000 Facebook fans. @PopeyesChicken has 19,000 followers.
Founded in 1972 in New Orleans, Popeyes says it is the world’s second largest quick service chicken concept based on the number of units. As of April, Popeyes had 2,119 restaurants.
