Digital Marketing People on the Move: June 2014 Roundup

This is a roundup of new hires and promotions in the digital marketing industry during June.

June this year was filled with the frenzy of the World Cup. But while 32 men’s national soccer teams were fighting for the trophy, companies in the digital marketing industry were competing for talent. This past month, the talent battle was just as fierce as the competition on the field.

deirdre-bigleyDeirdre Bigley Becomes New Chief Marketing Officer at Bloomberg

Bloomberg has appointed Deirdre Bigley as global chief marketing officer (CMO), to succeed the company’s first CMO Maureen McGuire. In her new role, Bigley will oversee all marketing strategy for Bloomberg and its products globally. She will report directly to Dan Doctoroff, Bloomberg’s chief executive (CEO) and president.

With 25 years of experience, Bigley joined Bloomberg in 2013. Previously, she spent 13 years at IBM, where she held several senior marketing roles and most recently served as vice president of worldwide advertising and interactive, and vice president of worldwide brand.

Bigley started her career on the agency side. She has worked at Ogilvy & Mather Worldwide in New York and other agencies located in Boston, New Jersey, and Dallas.

Seven New Appointments at the Mobile Marketing Association (MMA)

The MMA has added seven new industry leaders to its Asia-Pacific (APAC) board of directors. Ashutosh Srivastava, chairman and CEO of APAC and emerging markets at Mindshare, has taken the role of chairman, while Andrew Knott, vice president (VP) of digital at McDonald’s Corporation, has been elected vice chairman of the board.

In addition, Rahul Welde, VP of media at Unilever, who was previous chairman of the board, will serve as chairman emeritus.

Other new and re-elected board members include:

  • Ambrish Jain, VP of marketing, Lenovo
  • Dan Neary, VP of APAC, Facebook
  • Dick van Motman, chairman and CEO, Dentsu Aegis Network South East Asia
  • Graham Christie, chief commercial officer and co-founder, Big Mobile Group
  • Joe Nguyen, senior vice president of APAC, comScore

davidmarcushorizontalPayPal President David Marcus Migrates to Facebook

David Marcus will join the team as vice president of messaging products at Facebook. In his new role, Marcus will oversee Facebook’s app Facebook Messenger.

Marcus became PayPal president in 2012. He joined the company when it acquired his mobile payment start-up Zong, and started out as vice president of mobile at PayPal.

Marcus taught himself to write code at the age of 8, and launched his first start-up at the age of 23.

josh-gallagherJosh Gallagher to Join Havas Media Group

Havas Media Group has hired Josh Gallagher as regional strategy director. In his new role, Gallagher will spearhead offline and online strategy for the agency’s key clients, including AXA, Emirates, LG Electronics, and Shangri La Hotels. Meanwhile, he will lead the agency’s proprietary planning process Meaningful Connections Planning to deliver innovative solutions to new and existing clients. He will be based out of Singapore.

With 10 years of experience, Gallagher has worked for a number of agencies and media companies in Australia. Most recently, he served as a communications strategist at ZenithOptimedia Melbourne. Prior to that, Gallagher worked as client services and strategic director at Universal McCann Brisbane for seven years.

tom-wan-high-resTom Wan to Be New Managing Director at Ogilvy & Mather Shanghai

Ogilvy & Mather Shanghai (O&M) has promoted Tom Wan to managing director of global brand management in Shanghai.

A veteran of marketing and digital media, Wan has worked with clients across industries, both in Asia and the U.S. He has spent approximately 10 years at O&M, where he held a number of roles. He used to be managing director of OgilvyOne Shanghai, and later on served as regional head of the Philips account across O&M Asia-Pacific.

paul-robson-adobePaul Robson to Lead Adobe’s Asia-Pacific Operations

Adobe has named Paul Robson president of the company’s Asia-Pacific operations. He will be based in Adobe’s Sydney headquarters and report to Matt Thompson, executive vice president of worldwide field operations.

When he joined Adobe in November 2012, Robson served as managing director for Australia and New Zealand. And since May 2013, Robson has led the company’s enterprise sales function across Australia and New Zealand, Southeast Asia, and Korea.

Prior to Adobe, Robson was vice president and general manager of Hewlett-Packard’s networking division across Asia-Pacific and Japan.

kyle-snarrKyle Snarr to Join Tribal Worldwide in the U.S.

Tribal Worldwide in the U.S. has appointed Kyle Snarr as head of client development and marketing. In his new role, Snarr will be in charge of all new business activities, including prospecting, consultant relationships, and pitch management. He will report directly to Richard Guest, U.S. president of Tribal Worldwide. Snarr will be based out of New York City.

Prior to Tribal Worldwide, Snarr worked for Struck, a creative agency headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah, where he most recently served as director of new business. During his tenure, he led winning pitches for a number of clients, including Jack in the Box, Quaker, Disney, and Hulu. Before that, he worked as executive producer of interactive at the agency.

Snarr received a degree in media arts and a minor in advertising from Brigham Young University. He has been teaching college-level marketing courses throughout his career.

AOL has hired two industry veterans to join its global agency development team – James Harris as agency lead of international, in the U.K., and Lisa (Kasting) Ierardi as agency lead of Interpublic Group (IPG), in the U.S..

In his new role, Harris will be responsible for the strategic growth of AOL revenue across all agency holding companies in the U.K. and EMEA (Europe, the Middle East and Africa). He will be based out of London.

With more than 20 years of experience, Harris most recently worked as chief digital officer and managing director of digital services EMEA at IPG Mediabrands.

In her new role, Ierardi will be responsible for further deepening AOL’s partnership with IPG agencies, with a focus on growing mutual success through programmatic, video, and custom content solutions.

Before she joined AOL, she worked as global agency director at Microsoft Advertising.

Along with the two new hires, Jack Bamberger has been promoted from head of agency and industry relations to senior vice president and global head of agency development. Bamberger will report to Jim Norton, global head of media sales.

In his new role, Bamberger will spearhead AOL’s global initiative to grow and deepen agency relationships, as well as drive innovation and leadership across the industry.

manoj-bhavnaniManoj Bhavnani Tapped as Senior Creative Director of DDB Mudra West

DDB Mudra West has appointed Manoj Bhavnani as senior creative director. Bhavnani joins DDB Mudra West from Bates India, where he was creative director and worked on some of the agency’s biggest accounts, including FIAT, AIG, and Colgate.

With more than 11 years of work experience, Bhavnani has worked with top agencies in India, including Draft FCB Ulka, Lowe Lintas, Grey Worldwide, and Ogilvy & Mather. He is the author of the book Screwed!, which was published by Penguin in 2012.
