Tweets of the Week: #CallMeCaitlyn and Dunkin' Donuts Were Pretty Sweet on Social

This week, Twitter set a new record and also celebrated #NationalDonutDay, #WorldEnvironmentDay and #NationalRunningDay.

Twitter was a huge source of news this week. On Monday, #CallMeCaitlyn broke President Obama’s record by gaining one million followers in just over four hours. After that, Twitter took a run for #NationalRunningDay, cleaned up its act for #WorldEnvironmentDay, and had a delicious finish with #NationalDonutDay.

For most people, Friday is the best workday, but this week #NationalDonutDay made Friday even better after the largest donut chain in the U.S., Dunkin’ Donuts, began the day with a special offer: a free donut with any beverage purchase.

Other brands had a lot to say about donuts as well. Bath & Body Works encouraged fans to check out its cinnamon sugar donut candle.

Skype took a more innovative approach with a Vine video clip and a play on the word “donut”.

NASA also jumped onto the donut bandwagon with a cute, geeky post.

Kmart, however, seemed a little lazy by simply shouting out “Happy #NationalDonutDay,” accompanied with a low-resolution image.

Twitter also went green on Friday for #WorldEnvironmentDay. Coca-Cola initiated an eco-friendly campaign, encouraging fans to participate with the hashtag #Icare4Environment

In conjunction with #WorldEnvironmentDay, Amazon provided online a wide range of organic food, as well as solar and wind powered products.

Also in favor of going green, IKEA promoted a healthy and sustainable lifestyle.

On Wednesday, Twitter went for a run with many brands.

Athletic equipment brand ASICS celebrated #NationalRunningDay by giving away shoes.

Fitbit was smart to leverage user-generated content.

Twitter also lit up in celebration of @Caitlyn_Jenner’s debut earlier this week. After gaining more than a million followers in around four hours, Jenner broke Twitter records and trans rights barriers.
