Tweets of the Week: AMAs and Adele keep brands rocking, while also saying thanks

Between "The American Music Awards," "Dancing With the Stars", and the launch of Adele's record-breaking album "25," Twitter was awash with singing and dancing this week. Oh and don't forget the Thanksgiving turkey!

This week, Twitter was ablaze with celebrations of artistic achievements and Thanksgiving holiday tributes. Here’s a recap of some of our favorite brand messages from the Twitter-sphere.

Happy Thanksgiving!

As the work week in the U.S. comes to an early close for Thanksgiving festivities, brands took to Twitter in anticipation of the holiday.

Starbucks is sticking to its highly publicized Red Cup holiday promotion, with this simple tweet that has so far generated 8,000 likes:

Verizon is offering free music, movie tickets, and other goodies with its #ThanksGetting campaign:

Fitbit is going for a holiday season guilt trip:

American Airlines wishes you a Happy Thanksgiving, by reminding travelers to not be late! In fact, be early:

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) want to remind everyone turkeys have feelings too:

LG was on-brand with this tweet:

Oreo is wishing us all a “wonderfilled” Thanksgiving, but where is the tune we all love so much to accompany it?

Finally, who invented emoji baubles for the festive season? Thank you Target:

Brands are buzzing

Trending under #AMAs, the American Music Awards on Sunday night generated a lot of buzz from brands. One of the top tweets came from Shazam, which linked to its top five most shazamed songs from the night. This tweet generated 24,000 likes and 16,000 retweets.

Coca-Cola Music shared the event via a live-stream:

Forever 21 went with a fashion tweet:

Rolling Stone generated more than 25,000 likes and 17,000 retweets for this image of Justin Bieber. The tweet links to a website with an almost seven minute video of Bieber closing off the event with a medley of his songs.

From crocodile huntress to Dancing Queen

Bindi Irwin, the 17-year-old Australian daughter of the late Steve Irwin, also known as the Crocodile Hunter, took America by storm after winning this year’s U.S. version of Dancing With the Stars on Tuesday night. Trending under #DWTS, #DWTSFinale, and #TeamCrikey, Bindi was the star of the show throughout the season.

Here’s how brands in Australia celebrated her win, including Tourism Australia, the Sunshine Coast, and Australia Zoo – the animal conservation park founded by her father.

Other brands found ways to capitalize off the night, like Bing, which posted this cute koala GIF.

It’s been almost a decade since Steve Irwin’s tragic passing, but with images like this family photo tweeted from Bindi’s personal account to her almost 200,000 followers, his legacy as the Crocodile Hunter is still very much alive.

As a proud Australian, here’s one final tweet on the subject – Bindi celebrating her DWTS Season 21 win, with dancing partner, Derek Hough.

Though Bindi successfully won over the hearts of millions each week on Dancing With the Stars, check out the emotional final freestyle performance inspired by her relationship with her late father, that really sealed her fate as this season’s champion.

Go Bindi!

Who says you can’t sell music on a CD anymore?

Adele made history this week, selling 2.5 million copies of her new album 25 after launching last Friday. Much of this is being attributed to her refusal to make the album available on streaming services such as Spotify. Instead, fans must pay to download the digital version or buy it the old fashioned way, on CD.

The launch followed an aggressive marketing ploy, including an impromptu live performance of the entire album on the BBC, promoted via #AdeleAtTheBBC.

Tweets like this one, which is actually from Adele’s personal account, also helped to maintain the hype. This simple GIF generated 35,000 likes and 19,000 retweets. And yes, that’s a CD cover. Remember those?

Condé Nast Traveller had this cute tweet:

These tweets from Snickers, Target, and Kleenex with an on-brand message:

And Apple Music doesn’t want us to forget that we can download the album on iTunes:

Saturday Night Live also took to Twitter in praise of 25.

SNL also paid tribute to Adele’s creative accomplishments as well as to the Thanksgiving holiday in this comedy sketch, which essentially credits the album’s release as A Thanksgiving Miracle.

Finally, from all of us at ClickZ, have a wonderful holiday!
