Amazon launched its music streaming service in the UK today, offering Prime customers access to more than one million songs and hundreds of playlists as part of their £79 annual subscription.
Prime Music arrives soon after two major players entered the music streaming market – Apple Music and the celebrity-backed premium service Tidal both launched earlier this year.
Prime Music’s library can be combined with customers’ existing music collections. It also lets users download tracks to their devices to play offline, and makes personalised recommendations.
Unlike many of its rivals, Amazon’s streaming service is ad-free, though its music library of one million falls far short of the 30 million tracks offered by Spotify, Tidal and Apple Music.
More music is being added to the service “all the time”, Amazon said in a statement.
Christopher North, managing director at Amazon UK, said: “Prime Music is the latest great addition for our UK Prime members and we think they’re going to love it.”
