Google Chrome to auto-pause Flash ads by default

It looks like Flash is one step away from disappearing altogether: Google has decided to automatically pause “many” Flash ads in its Chrome web browser.

It looks like Flash is one step away from disappearing altogether: Google has decided to automatically pause “many” Flash ads in its Chrome web browser.

What does this mean? Not all Flash content will be paused. If you’re watching a Flash video it will play. The areas affected will be the surrounding Flash content, which is usually ads. To watch these, users will now have to click on it to unpause it. The feature already exists as a browser setting, but will now be turned on by default.

The change, originally announced in June and enabled for beta users, goes into effect for everyone on September 1st Google announced in a blog post.
