Cars.com, AltaVista Ink $10 Million Deal

Cars.com aims to raise its profile with a portal deal on AltaVista.

In a multi-year deal which makes it the exclusive car shopping service on AltaVista, Cars.com on Tuesday forked over $10 million to CMGI‘s portal player.

Further financial details of the agreement weren’t disclosed.

For its money, Cars.com will have its content placed on AltaVista, so that visitors to the site can access vehicle listings and exchange information about the cars. AltaVista will also develop a co-branded site featuring cars.com, which the company will promote across its network. AltaVista attracted more than 65 million visitors in June, according to the company.

Cars.com, a division of Classified Ventures, is affiliated with more than 150 local newspapers, and allows users to search through ads placed by local car dealers.

Cars.com ‘s agency of record for automotive trade advertising and marketing and regional media buying is Jordan Tamraz Caruso, with an account worth an estimated $10 million. Stein Rogan + Partners, a subsidiary of True North Communications, is the company’s agency of record for national and local consumer advertising and online marketing. These portions of the account have an estimated $35 million in media value.
