Nielsen’s study found that on average over 50 percent of global smartphone users see at least one mobile ad a week. Over 50 percent of those surveyed in a variety of major markets said they didn’t mind mobile ads if they give them the opportunity to check out free content. Meanwhile, those in developing nations are the least likely to engage with mobile ads.
The report found that 24 percent of U.S. smartphone users see at least one mobile ad a week. About 50 percent of U.S. consumers surveyed said they were fine with ads that allow them to interact with free content.
Smartphone users in India were the most likely to check out ads that offer free content, according to the study. About 50 percent of smartphone users in India reported they were interested in ads that allowed them to see free content.
While smartphone users in India were more open to checking out ads, they were also reported to be the least likely to see mobile ads on average. Nielsen’s study found that only 30 percent of those surveyed in India saw a mobile ad at least once a week.
South Korean smartphone users were reported to see the most mobile ads with 78 percent saying they see at least one mobile ad a day. Another 16 percent of those surveyed in South Korea said they see at least one mobile ad at least once a week.
Nielsen found that 35 percent of South Korean smartphone users would be interested in checking out ads that offer free content. The survey found that South Korean smartphone users were also alright with offering personal information for mobile ads at a 22 percent clip.
About 31 percent of Chinese mobile users reported that they were fine with offering personal information to mobile ads. Of those users, 65 percent reported that they see mobile ads at least once a day. Another 26 percent said they see a mobile ad at least once a week.
Brazil and Turkey were reported to see the highest number of mobile ads. Those surveyed in Brazil said they see at least one mobile ad a day by a 62 percent margin. While 74 percent of smartphone users in Turkey said they see at least one mobile ad a day.
Smartphone users in Brazil were shown to be more interested in clicking mobile ads that offer free content than those in Turkey. About half of those surveyed in Brazil said they were fine with mobile ads if they offered free content. That’s in comparison to the 34 percent in Turkey who responded to the same question.
