Pinterest is expanding its reach beyond the Web – the photo-sharing platform is set to play a role in a new TV series called We’re Moving In.
The home design show, which will be broadcast on A&E Networks’ new lifestyle channel FYI, will follow new housemates as they draw inspiration from Pinterest to design their new places. In each episode, the featured housemates will create a shared Pinterest board to start their decorating process. FYI has ordered six half-hour episodes of the unscripted show.
This is the first time the FYI Network has collaborated with Pinterest for a TV series. The network says the partnership came to be because Pinterest users’ diverse and passionate sharing experience on the platform reflect the company’s mission to “embrace an adventurous, personalized, and non-prescriptive approach to lifestyle content.”
Through the collaboration, “we’re able to bring that same unique creativity to the series,” says Jana Bennett, president of FYI and Lifetime Movie Network.
The FYI Network, which is a replacement for A&E Networks’ BIO Channel, will debut July 7.
It’s no surprise that TV networks and brands are tapping into the image-sharing platform. Recent research reveals that the company is worth $3.8 billion. And the site comes with a coveted audience demographic: More than 90 percent of all pins are made by women. Moreover, sharing on Pinterest increased by 5 percent in Q1 2014 from last quarter.
