Google increases staff in its philanthropic arm; The San Diego Tribune goes hyperlocal; iVillage hires and promotes several.
Google.org has added new team members. The philanthropic arm of Google, which focuses on climate change, global public health and economic development, added Dan Reicher, the former Assistant Secretary of Energy for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, to work on clean energy and climate change initiatives. It also added Mark Smolinski and Corrie Conrad to its global public health team, and Blaise Judja-Sato, Sonal Shah and Juliette Gimon to focus on global economic development efforts.
Union-Tribune Publishing selected VMIX Media. The San Diego California newspaper will provide hyperlocal content for SignOnSanDiego.com using VMIX Media’s video upload, media management, and community tools.
IVillage added and promoted several execs. The online destination for women’s topics hired Betsy Alexander as vice president of the iVillage / Today Show integration and Juan Lopez-Valcarcel as vice president, strategy. In addition, Gregg Zegras was promoted to SVP of consumer health, iVillage, from senior vice president, iVillage Parenting Network; and Adam Wiener was promoted to SVP for iVillage Media from senior vice president and general manager of Healthology.
Travel Ad Network integrated video advertising into its travel vertical ad network. Lonely Planet will be the first of the 50-site network to run pre-roll video ads to monetize its content.
Double Fusion and THQ signed a multi-title in-game advertising deal. Game developer THQ’s titles including Juiced, MX vs ATV and Stuntman will be added to Double Fusion ad network.

The marketing services firm worked with its client Agilent Technologies to develop this virtual lab for researchers in pharmaceutical, biotech, academic/government and agricultural chemistry organizations. Metabolomics is the comparative analysis of metabolites, which helps in understanding living systems, when involved in fundamental biochemistry, disease diagnosis or drug toxicity.
