MarketWatch.com promoted Dan Silmore to VP of marketing. Silmore joined MarketWatch in late 2000 as director of marketing and public relations, prior to which he was director of consumer marketing at Medscape, now a part of WebMD. He also spent six years as marketing director and Internet commerce marketing director for Wells Fargo.
Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A tapped Ground Zero to develop a youth-targeted viral marketing campaign with Internet and direct marketing components. The effort will run from July through September and promote the Corolla XRS, Celica, Matrix XRS and 2005 Tacoma pickup models.
“We were looking for something fresh and unique to reach our target market,” said Deborah Wahl-Meyer, Toyota’s corporate marketing communications manager. “Ground Zero came up with some innovative ideas and we look forward to working with them to develop and implement this campaign.”
Korean portal Empas and Netherlands-based online classifieds player Marktplaats have separately agreed to distribute Google’s AdWords on their Web sites. The deals will have Google’s ads distributed in Korea via Empas, and in the Netherlands, Canada, Germany, Spain and Turkey via Marktplaats.
Interactive agency NetPlus Marketing hired Kathryn Sabjan as an online marketing specialist, with a focus on search, affiliate and email marketing. Sabjan developed e-commerce marketing initiatives for Sure Fit, a manufacturer and retailer of slip covers.
“We recently experienced a significant increase in our affiliate and search marketing programs,” said NetPlus President Denise Zimmerman. “Katherine’s proven record of delivering outstanding results in those areas will help further NetPlus’ success.”
TaxBrain has engaged Coremetrics to optimize its multi-million dollar investment in online media spending. TaxBrain will use the Coremetrics Marketing Management Center for analysis of simultaneous marketing campaigns.
