Execs & Accounts: Mktg, Phonevalley, Digitas

Mktg names executive creative director; Phonevalley appoints a U.S. regional director; Digitas Chicago appoints director of delivery management.

New York-based mktg hired a bad boy. Louis Marino was named executive creative director, joining the alternative media and marketing services agency from Bad Boy Entertainment where he was VP of creative services and executive creative director. His work at mktg will include overseeing creative services both online and offline including traditional and non-traditional executions.

Phonevalley appoints a new U.S. regional director. Sanjay Pothen will become the U.S. regional director of Phonevalley, a division of Publicis. He was recruited from Los Angeles-based mobile marketing agency Pliq, where he was founder and CEO. Prior to Pliq Pothen was a principal at BusinessEdge Solutions, which was acquired by EMC. He will be based in Boston and oversee mobile teams in Chicago, New York, and support the VivaKi agency networks Starcom MediaVest group, ZenithOptimedia, Digitas, and the portfolio of Publicis Groupe companies. The position was previously held by Angela Steele who left last year to join Hyperfactory.

Digitas Chicago fills its delivery management group head position. Carolyn Frazier was appointed to the position and will also have the title, VP. Before joining Digitas Frazier worked at iCrossing and Agency.com; there she led teams in the creation and development of strategic roadmaps, Web site redesigns, online advertising, search media, and SEO.

Tuttle Sportswear revamps its digital platform with eWayDirect. Tuttle Distinctive Sportswear selected eWayDirect for its emarketing strategy such as e-mail, online, and digital channels.

Anthony Katsur joined TAN. Katsur was named chief technical officer of Travel Ad Network, a vertical ad network in the travel information sector. Katsur was most recently COO of Heavy.com, and previously COO of Panther Express. He held an assortment of positions at DoubleClick, including senior director of analytics product development. His latest role at DoubleClick was vice president, DART Engineering, Publisher Division.

Days Inn selects Ping for mobile messaging. Ping Mobile will deploy Days Inn’s text message marketing strategy through Ping-Wizard Web Portal. The hotel chain can send coupon codes to guests and customers, eliminating the cost of printing and distributing coupons.

Vans Warped Tour skates another year with Fanscape. Fanscape was chosen as Vans Warped Tour’s agency of record for the eighth consecutive year. Marketing programs Fanscape runs for the extreme sports client includes database growth and management, e-mail marketing, content syndication, fan outreach, and sponsorship activations.

PlaySpan scores former Electronic Arts VP. Eric Hartness joined sponsored in-game commerce network PlaySpan as chief marketing officer. Hartness worked for nine years at Electronic Arts where he was most recently vice president of marketing. Prior to EA he worked as a consultant with Acxiom and A.T. Kearney.

Specific Media hires a specific sales executive. Adam Hearn was hired as Midwest senior account executive at Specific Media and will work from the Chicago office. He previously served as director of business development at Dotomi, and before that he worked at CareerBuilder.com.
