FortuneCity.com, a provider of international native language online communities, named Marty Chavkin as vice president of marketing. He was previously vice president of marketing and e-commerce at Hearst New Media.
Michael Caruso, was named San Francisco-based West Coast sales director. He was previously sales and business development director for the Hollywood Stock Exchange, a simulated entertainment stock market online.
Chavkin will be responsible for managing FortuneCity.com’s international marketing initiatives including advertising, research, public relations and promotional and partnering strategies. Chavkin has experience in marketing and brand management for consumer products and services at Colgate-Palmolive, Weight Watchers, Heinz, Inc. and Bristol-Myers Squibb, Inc.
Caruso has held sales management positions at theglobe.com and Cybereps. A long-time advocate of Internet commerce, Caruso is also president and cofounder of the Society of Internet Advancement, a San-Francisco-based non-profit organization that educates new media professionals and furthers Internet marketing and commerce and is a contributor to the FAST Summit committee on broadband and convergence.
FortuneCity.com has community sites in English, German, Swedish, Spanish and French and said it plans to offer communities in Italian, Portuguese and Dutch by the end of 1999.
