Jupiter Media Metrix Sues Rival

The online analytics heavyweight seeks an injunction PC Data, alleging patent infringement.

Silicon Alley Web tracking firm, Jupiter Media Metrix has filed a lawsuit against rival PC Data, alleging patent infringement.

Both companies’ traffic analytics are heavily cited by Web publishers in selling ad inventory.

Jupiter Media Metrix claims it was awarded a patent last month for a system to analyze computer-use to spot trends and user histories.

In a suit filed in Delaware Federal Court, JMXI said the Reston, Va.-based PC Data’s tracking software presented a patent infringement. The software can track a user’s patterns on the Internet, including visits, length of visits and pages viewed.

PC Data officials could not be reached for comment.

Jupiter Media Metrix has requested an injunction against PC Data’s use of the software. The company has also asked for financial restitution “in an amount to be proven at trial,” according to court papers.
