San Francisco-based startup Licensemusic.com has launched as a site that offers music buyers for creative an opportunity to select, buy and download music for their production, from their desktops.
The music licensing site offers “pre-cleared” music for film, television, advertising, multimedia and Web productions, meaning that both recording and publishing rights to use the music have already been pre-negotiated and the music is thus instantly available for commercial use.
“The bottom line is that the Web represents a huge and fundamental paradigm shift by putting the customer in charge,” said Gerd Leonhard, president and CEO.
The site, built by Icon Medialab features access to a catalog of original music supplied by hundreds of associated record labels and publishers, selected tracks from affiliated music production libraries and a separate catalog of classical music.
“In essence, this introduces the ‘reverse market’ concept to the music business since customers decide what they want, when they want it and where they buy it,” said Leonhard. “Content owners and creators win because they can sell their music anywhere, anytime and for any use they define.”
Customers can browse through tracks by style, keyword, attitude, tempo, language, country and instrument as well as by random text searches. Customers can also preview full-length tracks, calculate a license fee based on their project’s specifications, purchase the rights to use the track, and download the music to be used in their productions. LM offers full digital delivery of MP3 and various PCM audio files as well as custom CD delivery. Pricing varies by scope of project and piece of music.
