Bargain-savvy Loopt users in Chicago whose iPhone or Android devices are getting a little cluttered with apps can take heart – there’s no need to download GrouponNow. Loopt has partnered with Groupon to deliver the latter company’s mobile deals.
Groupon launched GrouponNow last week with hometown Chicago serving as its pilot city, as the company continues to increase the swath of its deals-niche imprint. Loopt, which says it has 5 million users, will push one GrouponNow deal per day via its “Reward Alerts” program, while offering several others marked by a “G” icon in the app’s places section. The app’s users can click the icon to buy a deal with their existing Groupon account and redeem the offer during the next several hours.
Loopt, based in Mountain View, CA, says it will also distribute GrouponNow deals for other cities as Groupon’s mobile program expands beyond Chicago. The partnership showcases the growing convergence of the mobile and deals niches.
Meanwhile, to promote GrouponNow, Groupon today is running $1 deals in its hometown in the name of hundreds of merchants. Brands and SMBs participating in the promotion include 7-Eleven, Piece Brewery and Pizzeria, Carson’s, and Geja’s Café.
