R/GA San Francisco brings in a tech director; Digitaria names a new head of search marketing; Fast Company opens a new mobile Web site.

R/GA San Francisco has a new tech director. Peter Cole was named technology director for the San Francisco office. Cole previously worked at AKQA, where he became director during his eight-year tenure. He previously held the title of multimedia and Web developer at Saatchi & Saatchi and Citron, Haligman, Bedcarre.

Digitaria names a new head of its search marketing practice. Sunil Bhagwan, vice president of search, will oversee the agency’s search engine marketing and optimization practice. Bhagwan has Web marketing experience with clients such as Sony, Sybase, Hasbro, Autodesk, and others. Previously he served as senior director of business development at Business Online and also worked at WebSideStore, now part of Omniture.

Fast Company has a new mobile strategy. Fast Company created its first mobile site, which will be hosted by Crisp Wireless. The site will display feature articles, daily news, and Crisp Wireless will sell ads for the mobile site.

George Kliavkoff jumps from NBC Universal to Hearst. George Kliavkoff was named executive vice president and deputy group head of Hearst Entertainment and Syndication. He will be charged with leading the digital expansion of Hearst Entertainment and Syndication, the operating group of Hearst’s interests in cable television networks including ESPN, Lifetime, A&E, and History; television production and distribution; newspaper syndication; and merchandise licensing. Prior to joining Hearst Kliakoff was chief digital officer at NBC Universal and previously worked at Major League Baseball where he was EVP, business.

Publicis’ VivaKi forms Digitas Australia in Sydney. Kevin Malloy was named chairman of the unit. Mary Henry was named Australian managing director of Digitas; she was formerly the Sydney managing director of media at Carat. Nicolas Guillemot from Digitas Paris was named GM of the new office. The Australian agency will complement Publicis Groupe’s Starcom MediaVest and Zenith Optimedia, as well as creative agencies Saatchi & Saatchi, Mojo, and Leo Burnett.

OpenSourceCinema.org selects Kaltura’s video platform. Kaltura’s video platform will power interactive video functionality for OpenSourceCinema.org, a new online community site created by EyeSteelFilm and Rancity Studios. OpenSourceCinema was created to connect documentary filmmakers and audiences to collaboratively create and distribute films.
