Online drugstore PlanetRx.com on Friday teamed with MemberWorks, a developer of membership programs, in a marketing pact that has each company promoting the other, and gives MemberWorks members access to discounted products at PlanetRx.com.
PlanetRx.com is competing in a crowded and high-stakes sector, with big marketing dollars being spent by players like Drugstore.com, More.com, CVS.com, and Rx.com. And the sector also overlaps somewhat with the online beauty products sector, which is also rife with competition.
On a playing field where consolidation is already occurring, and much more is expected, the companies that build successful brands and forge meaningful marketing partnerships, will be the ones left standing.
This deal calls for PlanetRx.com to give MemberWorks’ 5.5 million members discounts on prescription drugs and health and beauty products. In addition, the two companies will actively promote each other to their respective members.
