Former MTV boss Bill Roedy is backing PopShack, an innovative social music business which connects brands with engaged music fans, as it looks to expand its global music entertainment network.
Joining a growing network of 12 million active YouTube subscribers, the pioneering content artist development company will benefit from Roedy’s experience of turning MTV into a multi-billion dollar business spanning 200 countries and 20 brands – reaching a potential audience of 2 billion people.
PopShack is building a network of global YouTube artists who can connect with inventive brands with an engaged audience of 13-24 year old fans – pushed by their creative agency, PopShackTV, which capitalises on the power of these influencers to connect consumers with brand strategies.
Roedy, former chairman and CEO of MTV Networks International and former Vice President for HBO, will join the PopShack board as a non-executive director, alongside seed investors Blenheim Chalcot, assisting the company on wider strategic issues, across brand and entertainment alliances.
Roedy commented: “I remember 34 years ago there was a seismic shift in how things were done when MTV launched. It was pioneering and disrupted the system. I see this now with PopShack and the viewing audience who live on YouTube, finding and consuming content in a completely new way.
PopShack is a business that has turned the old methods on their head. It’s about working with and in partnership with an engaged and partnered audience.”
Conrad Withey, CEO of PopShack, added: “I can’t think of anyone better to help us build PopShack into a global music entertainment network and I look forward to sharing his experience and insights from the early days at MTV as part of that process”.
