Radio Shack Looks for 'Holiday Heroes' on Foursquare

Radio Shack launched a holiday season campaign on Foursquare today with a trio of lucrative rewards: 10 percent off for every store check-in; 15 percent off for store “mayors;” and 20 percent off for unlocking the “Holiday Heroes” badge.
What’s intriguing about the badge is that it doesn’t require all of the check-ins to be at Radio Shack’s 4,000-plus stores. For instance, if consumers follow the brand on Foursquare and check in at two “Hero Hotspots,” they’ll earn the badge. According to Radio Shack’s Foursquare page, the so-called hotspots include gyms, coffee shops, train stations, and other places. After two check-ins, the consumers then need to check-in at a Radio Shack to pick up the 20 percent discount.
Fort Worth, TX-based Radio Shack was not available to clarify whether there would be limits on the number of badge earners or when the campaign will end.
The electronics retail brand is one of nine “Partner Badge” companies that Foursquare announced on its blog on Tuesday. Two more examples: American Red Cross will use its badge to drive blood donations and the Museum of Modern Art in New York City will give membership discount offers to those who unlock its badge.
Meanwhile, Foursquare’s blog stated it would slowly expand the Partner Badge program to other companies, while offering interested parties a form to fill out in the meantime.
