GTE’s business email service experienced a holiday meltdown this past week from a storm of spam, according to Media Daily.

The service actually had to take its system down for a day to resolve the problem.

GTE, which provides email services to some 600 small and mid-size businesses, said it had been experiencing email backlogs since before Christmas, when large spam volumes directed to its customers crashed GTE’s server.

Service was restored last Tuesday, but email backlogs persisted.
