Thanks to the Football League, football fans on Twitter will be able to light up the famous Wembley arch as part of the build-up to the Capital One Cup Final on Sunday.
Wembley plays host to Chelsea FC and Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday and this is the first time that the iconic arch will be used in such a way.
The Football League will track the use of two designated hashtags – #ChelseaAtWembley and #SpursAtWembley – throughout this week; the most used hashtag will be declared the winner. Spurs Vs Chelsea on social.
The social media ininitiative ‘#OwnTheArch’ will close at 6pm on Saturday and the arch will be lit up in the winning clubs’ colours the night before the final.
Marketing Director at the Football League, Drew Barrand said: “The Football League is always looking at innovative ways to bring fans closer to the action and this vote really does allow fans to play a visible part in the build-up to the Final.
Head of Sport at Twitter UK, Alex Trickett added: “Twitter is the place where people come to share in the biggest moments in the football calendar; in fact eight of the ten most-Tweeted-about UK moments in 2014 were football-related. It will be incredible to see fans from the UK and around the world reaching for their devices to light up the Wembley arch this weekend.”
