Collegestudent.com, a developer of localized online campus communities, signed an advertising deal with the Target chain of discount retail stores aimed at increasing both companies’ online and campus presence.
The move marks Target’s first aggressive push into the online college market.
The companies will launch a joint marketing effort including an interactive contest, Collegestudent.com promotional events and an advertising campaign. Spending was not disclosed.
Target will be the sponsor of Collegestudent.com’s Housing section as well as being featured as a site sponsor for the length of the campaign.
Collegestudent.com links will also be featured on the Target Web site. Target will also sponsor the “I Need Help! Contest”, where students can submit letters online describing why their apartment should be selected as the most in need of decorative help from Target. Student winners will receive free room or apartment makeovers from Target specialists.
“The fact that a major retail establishment like Target is working with us reflects the strength of the college consumer market and Collegestudent.com’s strong position in that market.” said Eben Miller, CEO and president of Collegestudent.com.
Collegestudent.com is currently online in 342 campus communities across the nation.
