This was my jam: music curation site bites the dust

Music social network This Is My Jam will be closing in September after four years of operation.

Music social network This Is My Jam will be closing in September after four years of operation.

Major changes in the music streaming landscape, including copyright restraints and the shift to mobile had made business difficult, wrote site founders Matthew Ogle and Hannah Donovan in a blog post yesterday.

“It feels like we’ve explored This Is My Jam’s original mission best we could,” they said.

“We started Jam in 2011, and since then the online music landscape has shifted dramatically – both in terms of how people listen to music and the ecosystem it exists in,” they added.

This Is My Jam let users share one song, or ‘jam’, at a time with their networks. They can follow other subscribers to play their jams.

Since the site’s launch, more than 200,000 users have shared 2 million jams.

This Is My Jam will become a “read-only time capsule” by September, allowing users to browse the archive, but they will no longer be able to post.
