Top U.S. Parent Companies and Brands on the Web, June 2009

Google topped the list of both parent companies and Web brands in June, according to Nielsen Online.

Google topped the list of both parent companies and Web brands in June, according to Nielsen Online. The search giant achieved a 12.8 percent month-over-month increase in unique users accessing its domains. Although ranking 6th overall, Facebook enjoyed the largest monthly growth, with almost 16 percent growth in unique users.

In addition, Nielsen tracked overall online user activity at home and at work, and found the average user visited 88 individual domains, had a total of 51 browsing sessions, surfed 2,569 pages, and spent an average of 57 seconds per page during the month. In April 2009, the average user viewed more individual domains at 108, but surfed fewer pages at 2,443.

The following is a list of sites U.S. consumers visited in June, along with the average length of visits. Nielsen Online tracked the brands with the highest number of unique visits, and the time spent on their sites.

The parent level is defined as a consolidation of multiple domains and URLs owned by a single company or division. The brand level is defined as a consolidation of multiple domains and URLs that has a consistent collection of branded content.
