U.K. Searches for PayPal Drop in March

U.K. searches related to online payment service PayPal fell drastically in the two months ending March 31, according to data from Hitwise.

The PayPal brand accounted for over 11 percent of searches in the measurement firm’s IT and Internet category in January, compared with just 4.26 percent in March. In addition, searches for the phrase “paypal uk” also fell from a 2.34 percent share in January, to just 0.86 percent in March.

Hitwise, a subsidiary of Experian, monitors how more than 25 million Internet users, including 10 million in the United States, interact with over 1 million Web sites across more than 160 industry categories. It collects Internet usage information through a combination of ISP data partnerships and opt-in panels. Data are collected in accordance with local and international privacy legislation and are audited by PricewaterhouseCoopers.
