New York City-based VentureDirect Worldwide was named online agency of record for drkoop.com, a consumer-oriented Internet healthcare network headed by Dr. C. Everett Koop, former U.S. Surgeon General.

VentureDirect will help plan, develop and manage drkoop.com’s online marketing programs with the goal of building brand awareness, finding consumers who want to empower themselves with information, bringing them to drkoop.com, and creating a loyal following. Billings were not disclosed.

“Direct marketing lends itself well to the one-on-one marketing the Web offers, and we’re very pleased to have an agency with the kind of direct marketing experience VentureDirect has,” said Guy MacNeill, vice president of marketing for drkoop.com.

drkoop.com offers reference sources for consumers through dedicated channels focused on such topics as Children, Women, Men and Aging Healthy. The site also covers more than 50 disease protocols and over 1,700 health and wellness topics. The Personal Drugstore feature delivers consumers an online drug interaction and prescription refill system.

VentureDirect’s services include list management, list brokerage, insert brokerage and management, card pac marketing, email marketing, online lead generation, online media planning/buying, web site representation, print media buying, magazine space sales, recruitment advertising sales, and custom services.
