Google is preparing to attach ‘buy’ buttons onto its search results in a bid to boost e-commerce CTRs, reports the Wall Street Journal.
According to the WSJ, the buttons will appear alongside “Shop On Google” sponsored results from searches made on mobile devices.
The ‘buy’ button will not appear on non-sponsored items, or on desktop. The move reflects the changes in the search arena, with mobile overtaking desktop recently.
The update has already been made by e-commerce rivals Amazon and eBay – the main difference being that Google hopes the ‘buy’ button will direct searchers to its sponsored options, increasing the marketing appeal of the engine.
When clicking on the ‘buy’ button, users will reportedly be directed to a landing page of the participating retailer where they will be able to select options such as size and colour and delivery options.
