WebSideStory Names Competitor in Copyright Suit

Audience analysis and traffic measurement company WebSideStory filed a federal lawsuit against WebTrends Corp. and obtained a temporary restraining order for alleged copyright and trade infringement.
With its HitBox application, the privately held WebSideStory says it “pioneered the technology of remote, Internet-based Web audience monitoring and analysis.”
WebTrends describes itself as a provider of enterprise solutions for “eBusiness Intelligence, Systems Management and Reporting.”
A federal court in San Diego issued a temporary restraining order prohibiting WebTrends from copying any works derived from certain copyrighted works of WebSideStory until the court hears further argument in the case. The next hearing will be held Jan. 31. WebSideStory said it is seeking a preliminary injunction.
“Our HitBox design is important to our business and we intend to defend it from infringement by third parties,” said Blaise Barrelet, founder, president and CEO of WebSideStory.
There was no immediate comment issued by WebTrends.
