Pinterest boosts shopping with new category for outside partners

By expanding their shopping partners, Pinterest aims to "enable businesses of all sizes to bring their products to Pinterest and make them shoppable for the 250 million people looking for new ideas every month.”

Pinterest is making it easier for its users to shop for anything they see on the social imagery site, with the addition Tuesday of a new category of Shopping partners.

With this new category, the Pinterest Partners program – formerly Pinterest Marketing Partners – will add a variety of third-party tech and business services that support shopping. The site is also testing a new Reporting API, which is designed to show which organic content on the site and which ads perform best.

Stores, inventory feeds, tags

Ecommerce platforms WooCommerce and Square Online Store will now let businesses set up online stores on the site. For businesses that have product catalogs, product inventory feeds can now be managed through providers like Feedonomics, Productsup and GoDataFeed.

Connections between products shown on a Pinterest pin and the retailers who can provide those products can now be made through shopping experience platforms like Shoppable, MikMak, Jebbit, Drizly and Basketful. And tag management providers like PixelYourSite and Tealium can now be utilized for tracking online sales to ads or other marketing.

This new Shopping category is the latest group of curated solution providers offered by Pinterest. Others include providers in the categories of Advertising, Content Marketing, Audiences, Measurement and Creative.

The new shopping partners, Global Head of the Pinterest Partners Program Michael Akkerman told ClickZ by email, “will enable businesses of all sizes to bring their products to Pinterest and make them shoppable for the 250 million people looking for new ideas every month.”

Complete the Look

These new partnerships and the addition of a Shopping category are the latest steps by Pinterest to become a shopping powerhouse.

Last week, Pinterest introduced a new visual search tool called Complete the Look. It makes style recommendations for products in a photo, based on contextual elements like season, body type, indoors or outdoors and other factors.

This new tool complements the site’s existing visual search with Lens, the Shop the Look for buying Pinned items and personalized results with Lens Your Look.

In March, the site updated features for shopping with personalized recommendations and shopping search, and added enhancements for Catalogs and Shopping Ads.
