Did we say Local? We meant online, too.

ShopLocal.com, owned by CrossMedia Services, which is itself owned by a slew of newspaper companies, has relaunched.

The new site, developed by Questus, lets users browse in three distinct modes. “See It All” shows both local and in-store listings; “Go Local” shows what’s available in nearby stores; and “Go Online” shows e-commerce options.

Once upon a time, ShopLocal was all about bringing newspaper circulars online, so those above-mentioned newspaper companies could hold onto their advertisers. This redesign shows an aim to put online retailers, and national catalogers, on par with local merchants. It looks a little strange and clunky at times, but, in checking it out, I saw some local offers that I wouldn’t have been exposed to, otherwise. Interesting.
