Digital Marketing People on the Move: May 2015 Roundup

This is a roundup of new hires and promotions in the digital marketing industry during May of 2015.

This past May, many agency networks and technology companies made executive changes, including Amazon, IPG Mediabrands and DigitasLBi.

Albert Cheng Moves to Amazon from Disney/ABC

Albert Cheng, former Disney/ABC TV digital chief, has joined Amazon Studios as chief operating officer (COO). In his new role, Cheng will oversee the division’s efforts across all business operations and software development.

Before Cheng joined Amazon, he had spent around a decade at Disney/ABC Television Group where he helped distribute TV programs online and on demand.

Along with this new hire, Amazon has added Bob Berney, founder and chief executive officer (CEO) of indie film distributor Picturehouse, to its team. Berney will spearhead movie marketing and distribution for Amazon Studios.

CMO Liz Ross Leaves IPG Mediabrands

Liz Ross, former chief marketing officer (CMO) of Mediabrands, has left the IPG media agency network. Her departure follows the appointment of Henry Tajer as global CEO of Mediabrands.

Ross was named Mediabrands CMO in September of last year. Prior to that, she was North American president of BPN, an integrated media planning and buying agency. Earlier in her career, Ross held business development and leadership roles at a number of digital agencies, including J. Walter Thompson (JWT) Chicago, Modem Media and Tribal DDB.

Mediabrands didn’t disclose who will replace Ross as the agency’s new CMO.

mattew-jacobsonMatthew Jacobson to Lead Global Design at DigitasLBi

DigitasLBi has elevated Matthew Jacobson to executive vice president (EVP) and global executive design director. In this newly created role, Jacobson will collaborate on key client and new-business initiatives across DigitasLBi offices in 25 countries. He will report to Ronald Ng, chief creative officer for North America.

Jacobson will be based out of Chicago.

Prior to the promotion, Jacobson served as senior vice president (SVP) and group director, leading design for the agency’s North American offices.

Before he joined DigitasLBi, he worked as SVP and group creative director for JWT in Detroit and head of design for Jack White’s Third Man Records.

erik-hallander-regional-director-mobile-innovation-apac-isobarErik Hallander to Lead Mobile and Innovation for Isobar across Asia-Pacific

Global digital marketing agency Isobar has promoted Erik Hallander to the role of regional director of mobile and innovation for Asia-Pacific. Hallander will report to to Sven Huberts, regional managing director of Isobar Asia-Pacific and Konrad Spilva, CEO of Isobar Group, Australia and New Zealand. He will be based out of Australia.

Hallander is currently mobile and innovation director for Isobar Group, Australia and New Zealand. With more than 15 years of experience in mobile and technology, though he began his career in programming. During his seven years at Isobar, he has created award-winning work for many brands, including General Motors, ANZ Bank and the Australian Football League.

marcoruivenkamp-mecnetherlands-webTwo New Senior Hires at MEC Netherlands

Media agency MEC has hired Marco Ruivenkamp as head of digital and Niels Langeries as head of strategy for its Amsterdam office.

Ruivenkamp has a broad experience in digital. Most recently, he served as Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) director for ad tech company Turn, where he has gathered extensive experience in programmatic.

Before he joined MEC, Langeries was director of social media for Starcom MediaVest. Previously, he was head of social at Havas.
